How to wash cashmere?

Washing a pure cashmere garment always causes fear and many questions: will it be the same as before? Will it get ruined? What should I do?

Overall, since it is a very delicate fiber with little resistance, you must pay close attention , but don't panic—if you follow all the steps, you can be sure your beloved garment will not be ruined.

Hand washing.

To wash cashmere by hand, soak the garment in a basin with warm water and add a few drops of delicate wool detergent .

Next, massage it gently, avoiding wringing or rubbing.

Finally, make sure the garment is not soaked for more than 5 minutes: it may get damaged and lose color.

In the washing machine

It may seem impossible, but cashmere garments can also be washed in a washing machine—convenient, right? However, remember to take all necessary precautions.

It is best to wash the garment inside out , or even better, place it in a special laundry bag designed for underwear, to preserve it better.

Use a suitable detergent and select a wool program, make sure that the temperature never exceeds 30° .

Drying

If washing was done in the washing machine, the spin cycle will definitely speed up the subsequent drying, but it is recommended not to do it or, at most, do it at a low spin speed (400).

It is best to lay the garment on a towel and very gently roll it up, to remove excess water . Finally, to dry completely, leave it well spread out on a flat surface away from heat sources and sunlight.

Ironing

Since wool is a naturally crimped fiber (it does not wrinkle), this step is often unnecessary. In any case, if ironing is needed, the garment must be treated inside out, and it must never come into direct contact with the iron; afterwards, place a damp cloth on the garment , set the iron to the lowest temperature and move quickly, without lingering too long in one spot.

Storage

It is important to store cashmere garments in a dry place , preferably in a canvas bag , and use natural moth repellents .

By following these tips, you will no longer be afraid of ruining your precious cashmere garments!
